Tidus Artorius
Tidus is a trauma-informed psychologist with a calm, collaborative, person-centred approach. He understands that stress, worry, and low mood can be difficult to name, and that many people carry these feelings quietly until they begin to affect work, relationships, or self-worth. His focus is on making the first step into therapy feel steady and manageable.
He takes time to understand each person’s history and what matters to them. His work is evidence-based and grounded in clear, down-to-earth conversations. He draws on cognitive, behavioural, and relational approaches to support both immediate concerns and the deeper patterns underlying them. Many clients say they feel comfortable with him because he listens closely, keeps sessions focused, and explains psychological ideas in a relatable way.
Tidus helps clients make sense of their inner world, recognise unhelpful cycles, and develop more flexible, compassionate responses to stress. His approach is particularly helpful for people experiencing anxiety, self-criticism, depression, perfectionism, work-related pressures, reduced sense of meaning, or longer-term effects of adversity or trauma. Clients often describe developing greater emotional steadiness, clearer self-understanding, and a more grounded sense of direction.
Respect, clarity, and consistency guide his work. Tidus aims to build a dependable therapeutic relationship and offer strategies that are realistic and sustainable. He works with clients of all genders and provides LGBTQ+ and neuro-affirming care. Tidus is a psychologist who supports clients from all walks of life and specialises in working with adolescents (15+) and adults.
My Values in Therapy
Reaching out for therapy is rarely easy. Many people wait a long time before deciding to speak to someone, often carrying things on their own until they start to feel heavy or overwhelming.
I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely heard and understood. My priority is to create a space where you can speak openly, without judgement, pressure, or the sense that you need to have everything “figured out”. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood, or simply feeling stuck, we begin where you are.
I strongly believe that in therapy, clients should feel empowered and motivated to explore difficult aspects of their lives without worrying about how they might be perceived. I aim to create a space that feels safe and collaborative, where conversations are open, transparent, and honest.
My style of work is friendly, interpersonal and relaxed, while always remaining respectful and collaborative. Often, seeing a clinician can feel overly formal, with both the client and therapist presenting themselves in a highly rigid, and clinical manner that may feel detached. My approach aims to shift that dynamic, as this style of communication does not align with my values about therapy. I believe that meaningful therapy and treatment can be delivered in contemporary ways that do not feel intimidating, cold, or forceful.
Most importantly, I understand that being vulnerable and not feeling understood can be discouraging. In therapy with me, your lived experiences matter. The goal is not just insight, but meaningful change. This includes practical resources and strategies both within and outside of sessions, with the aim of fostering greater clarity, steadiness, and confidence moving forward.
Insights
Tidus is a psychologist and clinical registrar with training in counselling, coaching, and psychotherapy. He holds a double degree in counselling and psychology, first-class honours in psychological science, and a Master of Clinical Psychology. He works with both personal and work-related challenges, integrating evidence-based approaches with an understanding of the real pressures people face. He has provided clinical mental-health support to working professionals across diverse industries and has delivered psychological treatments to children, adolescents, and adults in private practice.
Before training as a psychologist, Tidus had a creative-corporate background. He also brings lived experience of growing up in, and navigating disadvantaged circumstances. These experiences give him a grounded understanding of performance pressure, perfectionism, shame, and the effects of limited opportunity and injustice. They shape his therapeutic style: empathic, transparent, and attuned to the realities of stress, intersectional pressures, criticism, and the long-term effects of adversity and childhood trauma.
Tidus is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS)

Tidus’s research examines how mental health is shaped by race, gender, cultural background, sexuality, and other intersecting social positions. His clinical work includes analysing solution-focused interventions, evaluating therapeutic approaches for clients navigating intersectional identities, family dynamics, and minority stress. His recent work focuses on interventions for treatment-resistant anxiety.
Outside Clinical Practice
Outside of clinical practice, I try to keep a steady routine and stay connected to interests that help me remain grounded and balanced. I enjoy getting lost in a good book, working on creative projects that often start as careful, realistic drawings and somehow end up as abstract pieces, and mindfully strumming my ukulele - usually with more enthusiasm than technical accuracy…
I also enjoy spending time outdoors, walking through Canberra and noticing small details I may have previously walked past. From time to time, I take on the ambitious task of cooking recipes from different cultures. Results vary, but the process is always an adventure - and occasionally a pleasant surprise!
These small, ordinary activities help me stay present, steady, and energised in my clinical work.
